Wordless Wednesday #2

Me loving rock climbing

Note added a bit later: I am climbing top-roped. Which means I have a certified climbing rope safely attached to my climbing harness and a person (belayer) on the ground controling the rope. You can't see the rope, but it is there. If I were to slip, my belayer would catch me and I wouldn't have gone far. Don't ever attempt this kind of stuff without all the proper climbing gear and training. This climb appears dangerous, but actually is totally safe with all my safety gear and the climbing classes I took.

looks kinda steep. be careful... but if u tilt the picture a little it looks like you're crawling on flat ground. The wonders of a picture.

You're a braver woman than I am. Of course, with my bad knees, I couldn't rock-climb if I wanted to. I enjoyed long walks at dawn through Garden of the Gods last July, though. I love Colorado.

Glad you added the safety tip but I still would not be there. I am sooooo scared of heights.

Great picture.
Happy Valentines Day

Hi Everyone. Thank you for visiting. I have to assure you that this particular climb was rated at about a 5.6, which isn't very hard considering the rating goes up to 5.15a. My skill level tops out at 5.7, depending on the move required. This last summer I spent all my spare time motorcycling, so my climbing skills are really not so impressive as they seem, lol.

This picture actually makes it appear harder then it is. Whenever you do a climb that is top-ropped (meaning you are attached to on end of the rope that loops thru an anchor at the top of your climb and someone is at the bottom maintaining a firm hold on the other end of the rope) the risks are minimal. That's as long as your gear is in excellent condition and you have a really good belayer that is anchored in.

Climbing is so much fun. We also have a climbing gym in our city that is a great place to give it a try. I got introduced to climbing thru a youth pastor our church used to have. I chaperone youth group activities and that looked like loads of fun and the teachers that were showing our youth were my age. So why not try it? My first time out and later that day I was rappeling off the side of a cliff and hanging in mid-air. I have to say that was totally awesome. While I was rappeling on my own rope, another rope was attached to my belt and I was on belay and if something went wrong there was a person anchored in ready to stop a possible fall.

Anyway, it's a fun sport that I wished I had more time to dedicate to it.

Hello Betty,
First time on your impressive blog. As much as rock climbing appeals to you, I'd rather swim with crocs! As you've seen in my blog I'm an andrealine junky. But rock/mtn climbing would make me mess up my undershorts. My wife would not appreciate doing my laundry after that :(
Literally, you Rock!!
