With the photo hunt theme "childhood," I needed to dig through my photos of when I was growing up. I actually had in mind a photo of when I was pretty young on a bicycle. I was pretty excited when I came across this photo I forgot I had.
This is the first time I was ever on a motorcycle. I'm in the white helmet riding the motorcycle by my dad, who is sitting on the tailgate of his truck. We are at Clear Lake, California and it's April 1970. I'm 11 years old.
It was a lot of fun going through old photos.
Words to the Wise: Don't show your kids your photos of when you were younger, say around 20 years old. They look at you, they look at the photo, they look at you and they look at the photo. Then they get this horrified look like some accident has happened to you, because they are wondering where's the pretty person of 20 years old. My eldest didn't mean to do that, but by golly, he sure did, lol. Then he stammers out, "This is YOU!!!?!?" Yep, I'm an old fart now, sigh.
Have a great Saturday,
Biker Betty :)
PS: In rereading this I discovered an error. I was 10 years old in the photo. It was written 11 on the back of the photo, but I couldn't have been in 1970. It was written there by my dad's girlfriend at the time.

How great that you have a photograph to commemorate such an important occasion in your life!
What a great find! I love the photo.
I love, love the photo :) - How cool you were able to share this one from your childhood. Yep - don't show your childhood photos to your kids...I get the same look.
I actually dug a little deeper into my childhood--my photo is b&w and has me on a tricycle.
Happy Saturday Hunt.
great photo, great memory for you. You took up the old bike at a pretty young age
I thought you would at least put a photo of you, 3 years old on a motorbike ! I am very disappointed, lol ! Yes it's really fun to go through the old pictures. Instead of scanning them I took a picture, and run them through Picasa who did a nice job with them. With scanning I found out you loose a lot of the already pittyful quality !
Very cute picture and a wonderful memory.
Take care,
Connie
My photo is up.
This one's got to be a really precious photo capturing the first time you've ever been in a motorcycle. Frame it I'd say. :)
Terrific photo! :) What a wonderful photo to find when going through your old pictures! Too funny about your son. My mom says she likes looking at photos of her mom when she was younger because of the crazy 60s and 70s hairdos! :D
Hey, you in your hobby early on! Love how you kept the theme of your blog in this one.
I was wondering if you were going to be able to work a motorcycle into this week's Hunt! Glad to see I was not disappointed!
As for your word to the wise - oh yeah! I second that!
Great photo... don't you wish you still had that bike...
What a lovely photo and a great story to go along with it! :)
Have a wonderful Saturday.
I definitely came in expecting a picture on a bicycle! This was a treat! My daughter had a dirt bike when she was young -- we got it for her 13th birthday I think... she loved it for awhile but then lost interest. What an EXCITING day this must have been for you! First time... WOW!
Very cool photo! Mom and Dad both ride motorcycles, but Dad now more than mom, she has gotten "old and lazy"....

Hi Betty. It's amazing how you have started liking motorcycles at an early age. It's a lovely photo. Thanks for sharing.
i can't remember when was the first time i sat on a bike, but i learn to ride motorbike in my early 20's :)
hahaha.... yeah, I know how it is when we show our old photos to our kids. sigh.
I remembered pillion riding on my Dad's bike when I was 7. Now he lets my son ride with him. How time flies.....
LOL>>The first thing I did was scan my childhood photos to my kids! I wish I had read that "not to" here first...ok, my kids are positive Aunt Bobbi and mom are old as dirt. Love the photo you showed of you on the bikes! It is fun to open these photos up and look at them (for our benefit only from now on!) thanks for visiting my photo today!
I knew you would have a childhood picture of a motorcycle. And yes, kids do that look back and forth and sometimes come out with.... "Wow, you WERE cute back then!"
oh that is a great photo....see you knew then that you wanted to be "Biker Betty"....that is awesome...thanks for sharing...and I am glad you came across that photo.....
love looking through old photos and i sure know that teenage "look"! ha ha
smiles, bee
You started young on the cycle! What a neat keepsake picture!
Thanks for sharing with us!
Mine's up!
So neat that you have a photo of yourself on a motorcycle when you were young!
once a biker, always a biker
You really were into motor bikes even when you were young. Great photo.
Thanks for dropping by.
how true about not showing the young ones pictures of your childhood LOL. Hope your weekend is great.
You definitely started young :) Cute photo!
Fantastic photo! Thanks for sharing it.
How perfect that your childhood photo would include you on a motorcycle! Wonderful choice for The Hunt, BB.
I remember riding and crashing one of those. Remember they really didn't have brakes but a big piece of metal that would rub against the real wheel to stop it. Those were the days.
What a great memory! You lookin' good then and now!
I was about eleven when I learned to ride my brother's mini-bike.
old fart... ha ha.
Yeah... I'm not to happy with the aging process either.
but the alternative??? no thanks.
cute chick on a bike. That should have been your post title.
Is that a Honda Trail 70 (or 50)? That was the first bike I ever rode! Four down, no clutch. It was a blast.
Mike
Awwwww look at you. Love it!
BB, it reminds me of my favorite show, The Wonder Years. It just came on again where I live so I've been DVRing it.It's about growing up in the 60's and early 70's. I can so relate. Cool photo!
