Week 2, Adventures in Riding to Work

I have now logged two full weeks of riding to work and loving it!! I have made the decision that as long it's not raining when I need to go to work, I ride. I have been caught in afternoon rains, but that is no big deal. I just don't want to get to work a drowned rat, lol. These two weeks have been fun and what experiences I have had.

This last Tuesday I have to label "Stink and Spit," LOL. On the way to work I took a turn and a horrible smell assulted my nose. I'm talking "diaper gone bad!?!" smell. Looking around I noticed new digging going on and figured it was that. A mile down the road I was still smelling it and wondering where in the world was that smell coming from. I was wondering if it got trapped in my helmet and opened wide the face shield. No dice - still the horrible smell.

Then I suspiciously eyed the truck in front of me with one of those nets on the back that roll down over the bed of the truck to keep debris from flying off. I decided it was time to take action. I couldn't roll up the window to get rid of it. Checking the left lane, all was clear and I decided it was time to pass that stinky bad boy!! Once I got passed it, the air was nice and clear again, thank goodness.

Then on my way home that same day I was at a stop light when all of a sudden this lady just slightly ahead of me in the right hand lane sticks her head out of her window and spit right in front of my bike!?!?! Ewwwww..... I was so glad there wasn't a wind or she would have most likely sprayed me.

These were two experiences I really could have done without, lol. So sometimes riding a bike gets you a little too close to natures smells and bodily functions.

I have only two weeks left of this job, but I have just applied for a full-time library position in one of the schools in the fall. Wish me luck.

Wishing you "nice" adventures in your part of the world,

Biker Betty :)

I do the same as you, betty. If it's not raining on the way to work, I ride. I find riding home in the rain kind of refreshing anyway. Almost like washing the day away. Oh, and I agree...sometimes you can get a little too close to the smells and such. There is a bog close to work and there are days the smell is enough to knock you off your bike...ew.

OH the joy of riding bikes. Patt likes to get in the rain sometimes.....it at least washes his leathers off...hehe

oh pugh!!!... what if it had been a cattle truck and you got splatted??

Thats happened to our car before.

(and when I was little my dad spit out the drivers window and it flew right back in the back seat window.)

Betty I've just recently found your blog and have truly enjoyed reading all about your motorcycling adventures. I've just recently purchased my first bike and I'm looking to learning how to ride it... I'm also looking forward to meeting you through Mountain Shadow Riders, you're an inspiration.

Hi Giest, It is lots of fun riding in the rain, as long as it's not too cold. Wow, that bog sounds awful. Glad I don't have anything like that to drive past.

Hi Dawn, you are tooo funny!! Sounds like Patt needs to clean his leathers a little more often, lol.

Hi Pamela, Ewwww... glad I didn't get splattered on, lol. Now there's an experience I can really do without.

Hi Jovita, just came back from visiting your blog. Congratulations on your new motorcycle. It is gorgeous. I look forward to meeting you too thru the Mountain Shadow Riders. Wait till you meet the ladies and gents of the Mountain Shadow Riders. Now there's a group of people who can really inspire a person!!!

Hi Mortalez, thanks. No, I don't have a photo gallery.

Best of luck as you apply for the library position! I hope you get it! That will be one lucky school---to have their librarian riding to school on a motorcycle!

I have to commute every once in awhile and in the DFW area it is not a fun thing. It scared me to death. I used to love commuting when I lived in NM.. but in Dallas not so much. Just be careful and ride safe.

Hi, it's Snoskred here. I've recently become a blogging chick and have set myself a challenge to comment on as many Blogging Chick blogs as I can. So that's why I'm here. ;)

I was in the city last weekend and I saw this guy spitting on the sidewalk, it was awful. I really don't like that kind of behavior. :(

I hope you get the library job, luck being sent all the way from Australia for you. :)

I'm going to have to look out for some Harley socks. ;) They sound like exactly what I am looking for!

Sometimes it does suck to be on a two wheeler. But that's the price one has to pay to enjoy the freedom of two wheelin!

Ahhhh yeaaa.. the joy of smelling the ride! Sometimes a window is handier but passing is the best. Good luck with the new job!

Riding to work is great, we have dedicated motorcycle parking at all of our office locations and it's normally the right near the gate or door.

Living in Seattle, riding in the rain is a fact of life... I don't mind, especially in the summer. Besides, it gets some of the dust off the beast... ;-)

Good luck on getting the job... if you really want to work that consistently. I was thinking you had the perfect life... motorcycling and sometimes working but then having the best job in the world. Hasn't it been nice to have a day off here and there?
From Holly in Minnesota... (the biking librarian that works two libraries and 12 hour days during the school year!)
